The Frost in our Pixels

I promised I’ll whip up some fancy bang-up fanart in the holidays, and I have done it! I think this is the best work I’ve done with Paint Tool Sai for the time being, and I’m quite proud of it.

So, I’d just read the bestselling novel The Fault in our Stars by John Green, which narrates the story of Hazel, a teenager diagnosed with terminal stage cancer, and her love story with Augustus Waters. Hazel and Augustus are complete opposites, Hazel hoping not to impact people in her remaining life, and Augustus, who hopes to experience as much as possible in his life. The story is fascinating, with humor, but also sadness. I really burst into tears in the end of the novel. I haven’t seen the movie, but my friends told me to try and watch it, IF there are still copies of it out there.

Before you go and rant in the comments, let me just tell you a few things. First, I had NEVER wanted to doodle a TFIOS picture with Icebreaker. I thought the story would look better with Jackunzel, but while I was reading the book, this idea popped into my mind, and I couldn’t resist drawing it out.

Second, in the book, the girl, Hazel, is the one that needs a breathing device, and Augustus, the boy, has a fake leg. So, you ask, why did I swap the two disabilities? Well, I wanted to draw the couple piggybacking, and so if I draw the fake leg on Ralph, you couldn’t be able to see it. It is a tough decision, you see, I had thought this over for quite a long time.

Some of you may have noticed that I had tweaked the title slightly, just to give it an Icebreaker feel.

Also, I chose not to sign my name, but instead write my full username at the bottom of the picture. This is, again, a nod to the original cover.

So, what do you think? Maybe I'll think of a story to go with this, but I haven't thought of one, yet. Maybe I'll do it soon.

I changed my artstyle slightly again. I wanted to put more emphasis on the eyes, and also practise more on my shading skills.

Oh, and one more thing. My exam is approaching soon, so I won’t be doodling anything more for the time being, but I’ll be back soon!
